Caerphilly Castle FC Football Festival Draws Over 300 Women and Girls Players for a weekend of Fun and Awareness

August 9, 2023

In a vibrant display of community spirit, the Caerphilly Castle FC Football Festival took place at Virginia Park on a sunny Saturday and Sunday 30th of July 2023.

The event witnessed an impressive turnout of over 300 girls players, spanning across various age groups from U6 to U11 and even a Ladies category. The festival wasn't just about football; it also featured several engaging activities and partnerships.

The local fire brigade made a notable appearance, allowing young participants a chance to explore their fire truck, honk the horn, and learn valuable lessons about fire safety. The interaction with the firefighters added an educational aspect to the event beyond the football matches.

As the players and spectators soaked up the sun, an ice cream van provided delightful treats for all, enhancing the festive atmosphere. But the event went beyond mere enjoyment; it also carried a strong sense of purpose. Heads Above The Waves, the main sponsors, used the festival as a platform to raise awareness about mental health in football. This partnership not only highlighted the importance of mental well-being but also showcased the power of sports in addressing such issues.

A lineup of sponsors played a significant role in making the festival a grand success. DJ Tyres supported the U6 competition and rewarded young talents with medals. Limegreentangerine and Volt Secure sponsored the U10 and U11 categories respectively, while Cintrix Systems contributed to the U9 and U8 divisions. Upmarket Family Butchers provided local meat, and AerFin added excitement to the U7 matches and even provided raffle prizes. This collaboration between local businesses, sports, and community initiatives underscored the event's commitment to fostering connections.

The joyful vibes continued beyond the football fields, as the festival also included a Walking Football session on the following day. Such activities demonstrated the diversity of engagement the festival aimed to offer to participants of all ages.

Mayor of Caerphilly graced the event with their presence, further validating its significance within the community. The festival's cheerful atmosphere, combined with the active involvement of sponsors and partners, made it a memorable day for both players and attendees.

With its impactful blend of football, community engagement, and advocacy for mental health awareness, the Caerphilly Castle FC Football Festival is set to become an annual tradition. As it draws to a close this year, the anticipation for next year's edition already begins, promising another day of camaraderie, competition, and community support.
