Caerphilly start pre-season on a high

Sunday's match saw us host our first friendly of the new season against newly formed Aberaman.

Caerphilly started strong by controlling the game, keeping possession and working well as a team. The first half brought lots of opportunities for Caerphilly to take the lead but Aberaman's goal keeper delivered a strong performance, stopping their shots from reaching the back of the net.

Caerphilly were looking to score the opening goal of the match, playing well as a team they threatened Aberaman's attack through playing the ball wide. Claire Bartlett look on target to score when a foul was commited in the penalty box, giving Caerphilly an opportunity to take the lead. Chloe Dobson stepped up to the spot and delivered a confident strike resulting in a 1-0 lead.

The second half saw a more heated competition between both teams. Both sides battled hard and well to fight for possession. Caerphilly's back line looked alert at all times, working well with their midfield to keep a tight formation. Caerphilly came close to scoring a second goal but Aberaman held their ground well. One of the last plays towards the end of the match created momentum throughout the Caerphilly team. The defence looked confident, receiving the ball from the keeper they delievered a well placed pass to Captain Abbie Flynn. From Abbie Flynn through to Lauren Anderson, a perfect pass resulted in an accurate top right corner shot giving Caerphilly a solid 2-0 victory.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH

Georgie Emery was awarded player of the match for her fantasic covering in defence. Her performance was solid, covering for her team mates, stopping attackers and holding a good line. Well done Georgie!
